If you already know about the wonderful virtues of bee venom from New Zealand, please go straight our range of bee venom products

Bee venom is produced by honey bees to defend against predators and is a water-soluble blend of peptide and enzyme proteins, with the peptides being the major providers of health benefits.
In bee venom, the peptides Melittin and Apamin have been shown to stimulate the pituitary gland releasing a hormone that causes the adrenal gland to produce cortisol which is one of the body’s major anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, MCD peptide found in bee venom can produce an anti-inflammatory effect in animals 100 times stronger than the drug hydro-cortisone.

Apart from a possible allergic reaction, bee venom is free from the side effects normally associated with cortisone. The bee venom produced in New Zealand is mixed with honey meaning it can be taken orally and the peptides enter the bloodstream through the mucosal lining in the mouth and travel to the area of inflammation. In addition bee venom contains Adolapin, another strong anti-inflammatory substance which inhibits cyclooxygenase and has analgesic activity; and Apamin which inhibits complement C3 activity, and blocks calcium-dependent potassium channels, thus enhancing nerve transmission.

Other substances, such as Compound X, Hyaluronidase, Phospholipase A2, Histamine, and Mast Cell Degranulating Protein (MSDP), are involved in the inflammatory response of venom, which soften the tissue and facilitate the flow of the other substances. Finally, there are measurable amounts of the neurotransmitters Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Seratonin.

Bee venom increases permeability of capillary walls, improving circulation and the oxygenation and detoxification of the cells and connective tissues. The conditions which have been reported to improve with bee venom therapy include:

  • arthritis
  • nervous system disorders
  • skin ulcers
  • asthma
  • migraines
  • rheumatism
  • back pain
  • skin diseases
  • joint infections
  • vascular problems
  • multiple sclerosis.
