A little Active Manuka honey can go long way: The healing power of honey.

Research proves that Active Manuka Honey (which, unlike ordinary honey does not require dilution to be active) possesses antibacterial properties in addition to hydrogen peroxide making it doubly effective and more potent than ordinary honey.

Important: Not all Manuka honey is antibacterial and "Active" Manuka honey is identified by its UMF rating.

UMF - "Unique Manuka Factor"

UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor, and refers to an antibacterial property produced naturally by the nectar of manuka flowers. The UMF rating system was developed by the Honey Research Unit at The University of Waikato in New Zealand to identify the small proportions of Manuka honey which contain UMF healing properties and to rate their potencies. The initials UMF are followed by a number, indicating the strength of the UMF antibacterial property, where the honey is compared with a standard reference antiseptic (phenol) for potency. For example, honey with a UMF rating of 10 would be equivalent in antiseptic potency to a 10% solution of phenol.

Important: For best medical results and to qualify as a UMF product, a batch of honey must at least have a minimum UMF rating of 10. UMF10+ Manuka honey is effective against H. Pylori infections that cause stomach ulcers. UMF20+ and UMF25+ are very high potency honeys for more serious infections.
